Description
The Electronet ELGWR-40 is a 4-wire TDR (Time Domain Reflectometry) guided wave radar level transmitter designed for continuous level measurement and point level detection in liquids. It supports both single-rod and coaxial probes, enabling flexible use across a wide variety of applications.
The device emits low-energy, high-frequency electromagnetic pulses along the inserted probe. When these pulses strike the liquid surface, part of the signal is reflected back. The transmitter measures the time difference between emitted and reflected pulses to calculate the level.
The ELGWR-40 provides both analog output for continuous level and switching outputs for point detection.
Measurement Principle
TDR-based high-frequency pulse reflection
Probe immersed in liquid conducts the EM signal
Reflected signal is analyzed for precise level calculation
Outputs available:
Continuous analog level (4–20 mA)
Configurable switching outputs
Application Area
The ELGWR-40 supports reliable level measurement in nearly all liquids, regardless of:
Density
Conductivity
Pressure
Temperature
Vapors
Turbulence
It is ideal for:
Storage tanks and process vessels
Narrow nozzles and tall chambers
Bypass chambers and stilling wells
Liquids with low dielectric constant (oils, hydrocarbons)
The device offers exceptional reliability even near internal tank obstructions or in complex tank geometries.
Sensor Components & Probe Types
The ELGWR-40 consists of three modular elements:
1. Housing
Contains electronics and I/O terminals
No contact with tank atmosphere
2. Feed-Through Assembly
Metal bushing secures the device to tank
Guides HF measurement signal into tank
Universal design — fits all probe types
3. Probe
Two modular probe options:
Single-Rod Probe
Wide application range
Slightly larger signal detection radius
Suitable for bypass chambers / stilling wells
Better for general-purpose industrial liquids
Coaxial Probe
Fully contained HF signal
Immune to external disturbances
Ideal for low dielectric liquids (oils/hydrocarbons)
Suitable for “drop-in anywhere” installation
Not suitable for sticky, viscous, fibrous, slurry, crystallizing or particle-containing liquids
The modular design allows switching between probe types simply by adding or removing the coaxial outer tube.
ELGWR-40 Summary
High accuracy guided wave radar
Suitable for harsh industrial environments
Flexible modular probe architecture
Reliable measurement even with difficult tank geometries
Ideal for low-reflectivity media
